“Lena,” Kai said, standing up from the bench. The rain had stopped. “The app is going to die. But I’m six blocks north of you. At the park with the broken fountain. I’m wearing a gray coat that’s too thin for this weather.”

“It is,” he agreed. “But Ana also told me something else before she left. She said, ‘The second love doesn’t replace the first. It just proves the first one was real.’”

“What’s your name?” she asked.

A long silence. The rain outside Lena’s window synchronized with the rain outside Kai’s bench. They were only six blocks apart. They didn’t know it yet.
