You never fear the antagonists the way you fear, say, a Gus Fring. They lack depth, making the revenge plot feel slightly less urgent than it should.

Unlike many heist thrillers, Lupin has genuine emotional weight. The relationship between Assane and his teenage son, Raoul, is the show’s secret weapon. Assane’s fear of becoming an absent father like his own drives every risk he takes. The show also beautifully incorporates themes of immigration, class struggle, and the legacy of colonialism in France—without ever feeling like a lecture.
