One of the most persistent sources of tension comes from trans-exclusionary radical feminists (TERFs) and, more recently, a faction of the LGB community. TERFs argue that trans women, having been socialized male, cannot fully understand female oppression and pose a threat to women-only spaces. Conversely, some LGB individuals (often under the banner of “LGB without the T”) argue that their struggle for same-sex marriage and military inclusion is fundamentally different from trans people’s struggle for medical care and legal gender recognition.
